Year 5's Discover Asia Travel Expo

Thank you to everyone who came along to our travel expo this afternoon.  All the students did a great job in sharing their learning about their chosen Asian country.  They also really enjoyed sharing their work with an audience.

Our Discover Asia Travel Expo is Starting Soon

We're eagerly preparing for our Discover Asia Travel Expo.  The classroom looks quite different to what it normally does and the displays are looking great.

We look forward to seeing our visitors this afternoon.

Year 5 are enjoying working on their art for our travel expo next week!

We love to sing!

We love to let our creativity shine in Year 5. At the moment we are enjoying a particular song- 'Caring Dynamite'. This song links very closely with our social skills and is a great way to end the day on a high!

Here is the clip of this song so students can share this with you at home.

Counting in Maths this week

This week, we're learning about how we need to build up our counting skills.  We need to keep practising so that we can start at any number and count by any multiple.  For example:

Can you start at 13 and count by 6?

 

What strategies do we use to make sure we're not counting by 6 (for example) out loud while we're counting by 1's in our head?  Can we see any patterns when we count by particular amounts?

 

If you're looking for a way to practise at home, we're doing a simple activity at school this week. 

• Draw two playing cards from a deck
• The first number is your starting number for counting
• The second number is the amount your counting by

If you think you've got the hang of counting up by any multiple, try some of these:

• Do the same activity, but counting backwards
• Count by decimals, eg instead of starting at 5 and counting by 3's, can you start at 0.5 and count by 0.3?

Year 5's "Discover Asia" Project

Year 5's work on Asia continues this week.  Each group has collected information on their country last week and are now working on how they will present their learning in their Asia Travel Expo display.

The students are coming up with a range of great ideas - the creativity is really starting to develop.  This is really pleasing to see as creating is an important part of what we want our classroom to be in 2015.
